Responsibilities:

This is a Senior DBA position, providing the architecture, engineering, and operational support for global database operations.  He/she will monitor and troubleshoot SQL Server 2008 production, reporting and R&D database environments, and will interface with multiple software and report development teams to assist with SQL performance tuning and provide database architecture guidance. The SQL Server Database Administrator will help with the design, construction and maintenance of a data warehouse as well as provide a roadmap for deploying SQL Server 2012. This position does not require familiarity with life sciences data.

Required Skills and Experience:

Ideal candidates should have at least 5 years of experience with both SQL Server Administration and Development with strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles and practices. Candidates should be familiar with the complexities of supporting servers and databases located in multiple time-zones.

Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) tools (SQL Analyzer, SQL Sentry Plan Explorer)
Experience with native and 3rd-party monitoring and troubleshooting tools (SQL Monitor, Nagios, Splunk)
Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts (.CMD, T-SQL, PowerShell)
Experience with managing SQL Server in virtual and cloud environments (VMware, RDS, EC2)
Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics
Experience with backups, restores and recovery models
Knowledge of High Availability (HA) options for MSSQL Server, including database replication
Familiarity with No-SQL and/or open-source databases (MongoDB, MySQL, MariaDB)
Good communication and documentation skills
BE or BS Degree, or equivalent experience in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Information Technology or related field preferred
Ability to carry pager on a rotational on-call model
 

Desirable, but not required:

Strong knowledge of hardware platform and O/S including Windows and Linux.
Experience with architecting data warehouses
Certification is a plus; MCTS, MCITP, MCSE, MVP
Agreeable to travelling to China and/or Europe
